SINGAPORE - Austrian Airlines is launching its inaugural flights into Singapore in June, coming years after sister airline Lauda Air left the scene in the late 1990s.

It will operate three flights from Singapore to Vienna and three from Singapore to Melbourne.

Kuala Lumpur, which connects Vienna with Sydney five times a week, will see the frequency increasing to six.

Austrian is aggressively marketing itself in the region, with increased frequencies in New Delhi, Beijing and Bangkok.

"We will focus on the premium sector and the Central and Eastern European market, pursuing a clear niche strategy," said Austrian Airlines group chief commercial officer Dr Josef Burger (pictured).

The airline will be launching its fares at the NATAS Fair in Singapore next month. ( *TravelWeekly)
